How to reinvent your business model when Covid f**** you

or: The Business Value of “being agile & innovative”

MOIA faced a radical changing market environment, when Covid hit Hamburg and no one was allowed to ride a MOIA anymore. But what do you do in your company and in your team if giving up is not an option?

With crisis-after-crises in the past years, the flexibility to adhere to changing markets on a company- to team-level became a true asset.

The basic idea behind “being agile” was that companies and businesses should be flexible enough to react to changing market requirements. It also describes the evolutionary processes inside a single team: As smaller business units, also teams need some flexibility to adopt to those changing markets conditions and to be able to unleash their full innovative potential.

Listen to Finn and Jana who will tell you the story of MOIA and how daring can innovate not only a product but also a company with a truly #agile reaction to new needs of the market.

Growing Data Teams: An ongoing journey of mind shift

At the birth of data teams within organizations, the main challenge is usually fixated towards establishing and certifying the business value of data science. This can be done via selecting a handful of use cases to investigate and ideally proclaim results. Most of the time, the focus at this early stage is on the output rather than method. As soon as the worth of a data department roots its presence, and becomes a prospect of valuable resource with descriptive, diagnostic, and predictive outcomes, it embarks on a journey of ongoing maturity. The team(s) size grows, responsibilities and use cases at hand increase, and the proof of concept(PoC) mindset needs to evolve towards creating polished data products. This state advocates the necessity for gradually building common processes, refining engineering practices, and providing stable infrastructures. Ideally, to harmonize and synchronize methodologies across teams, enable collaboration, and take away duplicated work from sub-teams, to ensure swift development journeys.

In this talk Florian and Omar, join forces on displaying this daring ongoing journey from the eyes of K&N's data department, how it started, how it's going, and the future challenges ahead. Moreover, how a collaborative bottom-up approach across engineers and scientists is taking place, to understand the needs arising and develop common solutions accordingly, elevating the department into the next level.

“Try, try again, repeat”: What does it take to build a revolutionary IoT solution?

Imagine aiming at a moving target, while riding a wild horse and being completely blindfolded; an accurate picture of what the world of IoT startups feels like.

On one hand, IoT is a field that has emerged recently and is constantly evolving, making it difficult to make long-term decisions and understand the right tools to be able to unlock its full potential. On the other hand, the start up world relies quite a lot on taking risks, pioneering, and innovating. These two factors make these two worlds fit nicely together; where experimentation, error, and resilience are the main drivers of success.

In this talk, Mansour and Håkan will share the exciting journey of Wittra, an organization that embraced daring as one of its core values since its inception. They will talk about some of the main challenges the company has faced, and how they could overcome them with the right mindset geared towards trying and daring.

Ikenna Benéy Amaechi
Special guest: Ikenna - The Art of being Whitney Houston as a double

Inspirational Talk

“During the coverage of the death of Whitney Houston in 2012, CNN showed my picture instead of Whitney Houston’s…and no one noticed.”

Ikenna’s daring story begins in Berlin, where she was born. She is Nigerian-German origin and spent her first school years in Nigeria, where she already had small dance performances in the Nigerian TV. In the beginning of her teenage years she returned to Berlin together with her mother and her brother. In 1984, Ikenna saw Whitney Houston on the catwalk for the first time. She was fascinated right from the start. An idol without imitators or doubles. Some gestures of her reminded Ikenna very much of herself. And so the idea of becoming a double was born.

While still in school, Ikenna secretly studied Whitney Houston’s facial expressions and gestures. In 1989 she went on a stage for the very first time. It hasn’t always been an easy path since then, but she has dared to be different, she dared to pursue her dreams, she dared to go her very own way!

Since many years Ikenna has now been a Whitney Houston tribute artist on many stages of this world. With her live performance she inspires her audiences in Bangkok, Las Vegas, New York, Hong Kong, Paris, and now also in Hamburg.
